The Cub Your Mother Warned You About

Yesterday was just interesting...

Something was seriously wrong with the hub in our apartment last night. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING was working except chat programs. AIM was fine and I could chat on Yahoo, but that was it.

Every now and then the connection would stablize, but then it would go out again...usually when I was playing CoH.

So me and John and Bruce went out for breakfast. Since we waited so late (because I was doing a timed mission), the usual Waffle House we went to was packed, so we went up Peachtree Industrial and hit another one. The little kid inside was funny, kinda reminded me of my nephew and my cousin Chris when they were little. Almost enough to make me like kids again. He was well behaved, but not controlled. Natural and boisterous without seeming bratty. That was the thing that stood out to me about the place.

Picked up my MARTA pass and went home and proceeded to try CoH again. I kept being picked up by groups, only to have the connection go out. Bruce managed to get it running again and I ended up on a Task Force.

For the first time in a while, I was having such a good time, I forgot all about my xp debt. It was a great group, with lots of banter and teamwork. Of course, the instant I realized I was out of debt, we got ambushed and almost the entire group got killed.

I honestly took that in stride, which kind of surprised me. I HATE to be frustrated. I can tolerate failure, as long as it leads to me making some kind of progress. What I can't stand is to stand still. Spinning my wheels despite my best effort. Running as hard as I can just to stay in place.

What got me is that the connection started acting up again. I kept getting booted from the server and it kept getting more and more frequent the closer we got to the end of the TF. That's when I got sullen.

When that happens, I can get kinda tough to be around. Moody, closed-mouthed, slightly snarky, I don't want anything to do with anybody, with very few exceptions. So I was pretty silent throughout. Plus I was getting tired.

I stuck it out and logged back in everytime I got booted. Was worth it in the end. I ended up with 2 SOs, a couple of badges, and about 2k less xp debt than I started with that morning.
